the effects on children and their futures of such sever austerity measures?
Hi Sarah
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid that the British have a long tradition of bringing their children up in poverty and of looking down on parenthood. The unholy glee with which this Tory government is cutting back on benefits is indicative of their lack of understanding of the lives of ordinary people. They are not 'out of touch' because they have never been 'in touch'. The ramparts of class division are being rebuilt higher than ever by the privileged few and there will be a massive backlash of alienation, crime and disorder. I am sorry to be so gloomy but I don't see how it can be avoided. Last Friday the government withdrew up to £70pw from the poorest families in Britain. It's outrageous £280 per month is an enormous sum for a family living on a part-time minimum wage job. How the hell are they going survive?
